Detla Pilot Turn Plane Around After Takeoff Due To One Passenger

A Delta pilot turned his plane around after he learned that a family missed the flight and would miss their father’s funeral.

Rick Short was traveling with his family from Arizona to attend his father’s funeral in Tennessee. But the family missed their connecting flight in Minneapolis because their original flight was delayed by 90 minutes.
The worst part it was the last flight to Memphis that day and the funeral was the following morning.

“The lady got on the phone and said there was nothing they could do, that the tower wasn’t going to let them pull back in and my sisters and mom … sitting there in tears and I’m screaming through the glass,” Short told KSAZ.

The family cried and screamed to try and get the pilot’s attention.

“All of a sudden, another phone call,” Short said.

The pilot said he saw Short in the window and could see the desperation on his face. So he decided to turn the plane around and let the family board even though it was against protacall.

The family got on the flight and was able to attend the service for Short’s father. They would not have been able to say goodbye had it not been for the pilot’s compassion.

“It’s very rare … someone stops and does something so kind and we need more people like that in the world,” Short said.
